3. Scan for Spyware and Mailware

 

Adware is software that displays advertisements when you use it and even when you aren't using it. Adware can produce a lot of pop-ups and other ads on Web sites that you visit.

Lavasoft's AdAware is a good program that you can use to detect and delete spyware and adware. Download the software from Lavasoft's website.

Another good one is Spybot you can download it from the Spybot's website.

It is a good idea to use more than one spyware removal program to make sure you get everything.

Here is a step-by-step Guide on Installing Ad-Aware.

Once installed follow these steps to start scanning your PC to detect and remove all spyware and mailware.

Start Ad-Aware by following these steps:

From the Start menu

point to All Programs then

Point to Lavasoft then

Point to Ad-Aware then

Click on Ad-Aware

 

If the Web Update status does not show OK click on the button to update.

 

This window shows Ad-Aware updating itself with the latest threats.

 

Once the update is complete select Scan System to begin the scan.

 

Now select Scan Now.

 

Once the scanning is complete it will list all the threats it has found. Select Perform Action Now to accomplish the action that ad-aware recommends for the treats found..

 

Finally you will see a summary of the results of the action taken

 

Ad-Aware also has a feature called Ad-ware Live that is always on and constantly monitors computer for spyware and mailware. The downside to this is, it uses computer resources since it is always on. You have the option to disable it by selecting the Ad-Watch button. You just then have to remember run the Scan System on a regular basis.
