1. Scan and Fix Windows Systems Files

 

The SFC (System File Checker) program scans all protected system files and replaces corrupted or incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions. This procedure can be very beneficial, especially if your computer has been displaying error messages or running erratic.

This command may require access to the Windows installation source disk.

To use the System File Checker, follow these steps:

 

Scan Hard Drive

On Vista:

From the Start menu, point to All Programs then Point to Accessories then Point to System Tools then Click on Run.

 

scan disk

On XP:

From the Start menu,Click on Run.

 

Scan Hard Drive

Type in the window sfc /scannow and press OK

 

Scan Hard Drive

The scan will now begin. Once finished and no errors were found it will close by itself. It takes from 30 minutes to a couple of hours to complete.
